667MHz FSB Intel Itaniums Released

Tuesday 19 July 2005 @ 2:00 pm

Intel
Intel just confirmed the release of their high end 64-bit server processor, Itanium, which uses 667MHz FSB (front side bus).

The 667MHz bus rather than the 400MHz buses for these Itaniums will deliver over 65% greater system bandwidth than those with a 400MHz front side bus. 65% improvement will no doubt boost the server performance significantly. The figures Intel cites said 667MHz FSB allows 10.6 gigabits of data per second to go from CPU to other system components, while the 400MHz front side bus transfers 6.4 gigabits of data per second.

Tuesday 19 July 2005 @ 1:05 pm

Firefox
Just days after the latest release of Firefox 1.0.5, Mozilla Foundation is going to release Firefox 1.0.6 as early as next week. This is due to the API changes in 1.0.5 unintentionally broke some extensions, which have caused some incompatibility between the browser and web-based applications. That’s why some of your old extensions cannot be used in the new Firefox 1.0.5. A test builds of Firefox 1.0.6 has already been released for developers to test.

Quoted:
“It’s a very small percentage of Firefox users that are affected by this directly, but there is a growing number of people building applications, content and extensions that rely on the [browser] platform,” Mozilla’s director of engineering, Chris Hofmann said.

Sharp revealed this new LCD during the company’s preview of its new LCD technology in Tokyo on Thursday, July 14, 2005.

Quoted:
The technology that enables the device is called a “parallax barrier.” When superimposed on the LCD, it causes “the light from the backlight to separate into right and left directions, which makes possible a display in which the view differs depending on the angle at which the screen is viewed,” Sharp said in a statement.

Thursday
Today, I wrote about the news of Fujitsu-Siemens has launched new PC with AMD chip, 2 weeks after AMD filing suit against Intel. Before this, Fujitsu-Siemens was suspected accepting Intel’s special offers and hiding its AMD computers on its website and removing all references to commercial AMD-powered products in the company’s retail catalog.
