Weekly Highlights [Aug 15, 2005 – Aug 21, 2005]

Quite a busy week last week, couldn’t really blog a lot on the latest stuffs, my apologies to you guys. Somehow, I still manage to attend Penang Blogger’s Gathering on Sunday, August 21, 2005, at Coffee Bean, Gurney Plaza. Almost everybody attended was blogging about it, and I think I’ll be the last to talk about it in the coming days. Sigh… Too many tasks to finish, too little time. Anyway, it was really a good experience meeting up other bloggers and I enjoyed it a lot.

Here goes the summary of what actually wrote last week.

Monday
I started off the busy week, with an upgrade of my blog to WordPress 1.5.2, mainly due to a critical flaw found if PHP Directive of register_globals is turned ON. I did a workaround to remedy the flaw before upgrading, by putting in some commands in to the .htaccess file. For me, whenever a new version of script or software, it is always advisable to upgrade for security purposes and for the enhancement the new version got, so I did the upgrade.

Tuesday
A source announced that Microsoft is planning a worldwide public BETA for MSN Messenger 7.5, the next version of MSN Messenger to stay in competition to the latest versionYahoo Messenger 7. Before the next version of Internet Explorer (IE) is launched, Microsoft IE Blog revealed the new logo of IE.

Wednesday
A9.com, a subsidiary of Amazon.com, launched A9.com Maps Beta, a service that shows users an interactive map with street-level images, as a respond to two other mapping services, Google Maps and MSN Virtual Earth. On the same day, there was a security alert to users of Windows 2000 and some early versions of Microsoft XP as a new worm has been found, which will shut down the specific OS once infected.

Thursday
I found an article talking about a Guinness World Record set by a group of 1073 people playing Counter-Strike 1.1 simultaneously in a LAN party in 2004 !!

Friday
On Friday, I tried out an interesting piece of software, and shared the experience in using a software called OriMado, which allows you to fold the window in Windows OS by moving the mouse in certain directions.

Saturday
A source revealed that the entire city of San Francisco of the United State will become a wide scale WiFi zone for free or at least at minimal charges. So, everyone might be able to connect to the Internet from any corner in San Francisco.

News Feeds
Last week I was not very productive, just wrote 10 articles in total. A few projects and coursework assignments in hand, they have taken quite a lot of my time last week. Just a blink of eyes, it’s already the second week of August and somehow I feel like didn’t do anything really meaningful in the past two weeks. Anyway, I’ve created a new one stop news infohub which allows you to read all kinds of latest news from varies sources. So, on top of the news or information I posted, you are now able to read more news without going to different websites. :)

Ok, here comes the weekly summary :-

Monday
Motorola has launched of Moto Q, which they claim is the world’s thinnest and lightest handset with a qwerty keypad, with only 11.5mm thick thin. On the same day, Baidu.com, a famous china based search engine has made a big impact on the US stock market, by surging a spectacular 354%, on the open day.

Tuesday
The provider of the famous Mozilla Firefox web browser, Mozilla Foundation will become a Corporation very soon. We have heard of the first virus threat for Windows Vista one week ago. In fact, it won’t be the first virus because the new command shell, codenamed Monad, which got exploited by the virus writer will not be part of the next Windows Vista release.

Wednesday
China based company is launching a TV show specially made for mobile phone. This TV show will be a total of 25-minutes series, comprising five 5-minutes episodes.

Thursday
I’ve come across a free service which generate RSS feeds into JavaScript (might be useful to blog owner or website designer), so that you can integrate the feeds into webpages. I’ve created my own JavaScript codes using the free service for my blog, in case you wanna read some latest IT news straight from your website, just copy & paste the codes into your webpage. :) Computer peripheral maker, IKEY, has introduced its AquaPointâ„¢ optical, waterproof mouse, which is named DT-OM.

Friday
A very good news for Yahoo Messenger users on last Friday, as Yahoo has just launched its latest version of Yahoo Instant Messenger (IM), Yahoo Messenger 7. It features Voice over IP (VoIP), which enables you to make PC-to-PC calls around the world, just like Skype.

Saturday
After half a day of working on integrating News Feeds from various sources, finally I’ve managed to cover more news in my blog. On top of the news I blog, there are three other category of latest news from different sources, including Technology News, General News and Corporate News.

Sunday
A new world record for PC processor overclocking has been set by a Japanese overclocker named Memesana, who has managed to overclock Intel Pentium 4 670 microprocessor to 7.1335 GHz !!!

Besides this meaningful Blogathon campaign, let’s take a look of what I wrote for the last whole week. By the way, I was not very productive last week, maybe due to some freelance stuffs. :p

Monday
On Monday, Hewlett-Packard (HP) announced that they have decided to stop shipping HP branded iPod media players, which they started selling HP branded iPods in August 2004.

Tuesday
AMD added Athlon 64 X2 3800+ to their 64bit Dual Core desktop processor family and priced just under USD$370 (RM1,406). Besides, I showed you two Gmail notifiers, which will notify you for new Gmail messages, either from a desktop application or Firefox browser plugin.

Wednesday
I found a funny link some time ago, and decided to share with you all on last Wednesday. It is about “Microsoft Teaches You How To Uninstall Linux“. There is an article posted in the Help & Support Center of Microsoft website which teaches you how to remove Linux and install Windows XP. :D On the same day, Apple released their newly designed Mighty Mouse, which has several new innovative features that make using a Mac even more powerful and easy.

Thursday
Last week, we have heard so many bloggers been banned by Google from using AdSense. Fortunately, Yahoo came at the right time to announce Yahoo ad network for small Web publishers intended to compete against rival Google in text based ad. Hopefully, this service will provide an alternative to those been banned. I also revealed the fact that actually Mozilla Firefox suffered more attacks than Internet Explorer in the year 2005, according to Secunia.

Friday
Fujitsu is selling its AMD Turion based LaptopS2000 Series, on their website within only 1 month AMD claimed that Fujitsu-Siemens was hiding its AMD computers on its website and removing all references to commercial AMD-powered products in the company’s retail catalog.

Saturday
Well, the IT world is evolving in a very rapid speed, this is no doubt. This fact is pr oven when an Austrian hacker wrote what are thought to be the first known viruses for Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system (OS), after only 8 days the beta version of the OS was released !! Anyway, though the evolution is so rapid, there are still some nice bloggers in this world, who were writing articles in a rapid pace too, 30 minutes an article non stop for 24 hours, for the Blogathon Campaign. It’s still not too late to pledge, just register, then you can donate.

Weekly Highlights [July 25, 2005 – July 31, 2005]

It’s another weekly highlights to sum up all the articles I wrote for past whole week. Last week was the week of processors and Windows operating system, I didn’t even notice I wrote 10 articles regarding either one of them.

Anyway, it seems to me time flies in July. It’s another new month now, with new objectives and new tasks to be completed. Let’s move forward.

Monday
Last Monday, I posted an interesting real IQ test, which I managed to score 116, out of the impossible 140. :D The test is based on logic, but is furthermore designed to test learning capability, memory, innovative thinking and the ability to simultaneously address several problems. If you are a computer programmer, I think trying this IQ test is a must, as it tests on your logical thinking. :)

Tuesday
I shared a helpful article from ZDNet about a detailed comparison of a total of 10 AMD and Intel laptops available on the market. All laptops were tested on its performance, battery life and peak spot temperature. Other than this, I found a snap shots from MSN Virtual Earth doesn’t show Apple’s Cupertino HQ.

Wednesday
A good news to AMD supports as AMD’s server share surpassed 10% mark of total market share. Good news to Korean too as Pantech launched Korea’s first smartphone, PH-S8000T, which runs Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition on an Intel Bulverde 400Mhz Processor. Meanwhile, bad news to pirated Windows users as Microsoft Corp. released the Windows® Genuine Advantage (WGA) pilot, which will require Windows users to validate their copies of Windows before being allowed to download updates !!

Thursday
Breaking news from Microsoft announcing the next Windows will not be named Longhorn as planned, instead Windows Vista will be the real name. Besides, Intel Corp. has added three new mobile chips into the family quietly without announcing any statements on the news.

Friday
A news about breakthrough technology in microprocessors from Intel announced plans to begin production of their microprocessors built on 45nm process technology in the second half of 2007. Then we took a glance on a few screen shots of the next version of Windows – Windows Vista. Just 2 days ago, we knew Windows users will be forced to validate the copies of Windows before being allowed to download updates. Today, a trick to bypass the WGA validation was released. In fact, just a single code will do the trick. :)

Saturday
Today, I posted official details Of Windows Vista from Microsoft website. The article shows the improvement on the Windows’ fundamentals such as security, deployment, manageability and performance.

Sunday
Mozilla Foundation has released a technology preview of a mobile device browser, codenamed Mimimo, that uses the same code base as the popular desktop Firefox browser.

It’s summary time, let’s recall what I’ve written for the last whole week.

Monday
Firstly, I posted an article about a new LCD technology from Sharp, 2-way viewing-angle LCD, is able display different images at the same time depending on the angle at which viewers are watching.

Tuesday
On last Tuesday, there were information from Mozilla Foundation that they were going to release Firefox 1.0.6 just days after the latest release of Firefox 1.0.5. Besides, we saw a Pakistan girl become Microsoft engineer at the age of 10 years old. At the same time, Intel announced the release of 667MHz FSB Itaniums.

Wednesday
I found a J2ME application for mobile phone, which able to display Google Map on mobile phone. After just one day I mentioned about Firefox 1.0.6, Firefox 1.0.6 was released today.

Thursday
As the AMD Sued Intel story continues, Intel president and CEO Paul Otellini spoke up and dismissed charges from Advanced Micro Devices Inc. in Japan. After watching Jesus face appeared on Google Map, we saw “Hitler’s Base” on Google Map too. Besides, Google shown their sense of humor on Google Moon.

Friday
Soon we will see USD$1 .org domains for developing countries, like Latin America and India. Another good news to AMD chip supports is BenQ is shipping their first AMD laptop.

Saturday
I’ve written an article regarding the introduction to AMD Turion64 mobile processor, it helps you to compare both AMD and Intel mobile processors. Besides, we have seen black colour PlayStation Portable (PSP) since its launch, Sony announced their new Value Pack PSP will be available soon in white colour.

Sunday
Yesterday, I posted a news saying .tel Domain is coming soon. This new .tel domain hold contact details for companies and individuals.




Weekly Highlights [July 11, 2005 – July 17, 2005]

Ok, it’s summary time. Let’s see what I’ve written for the last whole week.

Monday
The first post on last Sunday was about the update of lawsuit between AMD and Intel, regarding six major distributors of the processor chips have been subpoenaed in the antitrust lawsuit. Besides, I posted a news of the preview version of the Opera browser for Windows, Linux and Mac that includes support for BitTorrent, a Peer to Peer (P2P) software.

Tuesday
There was a virus and scam taking advantage of London terrorist attacks and spreading itself through emails last week. Voice over IP provider Skype has released beta versions of toolbars for Outlook and Internet Explorer. So, now with the plugins, Outlook and IE users are able to enjoy the features that Skype offers.

Wednesday
As a fan of mobile application development, the approval of .mobi domain name was like a good news to me last week. Hopefully, next year we’ll see URL ends with .mobi been used. Another fascinating news on last Wednesday was the release of latest version of Firefox : Firefox 1.0.5. One weird thought came into my mind in the middle of the afternoon, I thought of what will be on the sign board outside the court room of AMD sued Intel lawsuit? :D

Thursday
Today, I wrote about the news of Fujitsu-Siemens has launched new PC with AMD chip, 2 weeks after AMD filing suit against Intel. Before this, Fujitsu-Siemens was suspected accepting Intel’s special offers and hiding its AMD computers on its website and removing all references to commercial AMD-powered products in the company’s retail catalog.

Friday
On Friday, I shared with you a new buzz world in networking industry, phlooding. I posted a news from Microsoft that a new version of Hotmail codenamed Kahuna is going to be launched. Besides, I shared also 206 ways of saying “Hello World” using different computer programming languages.

Saturday
One good news in the blogsphere was the announcement of IBM released two blogging tools, taking advantage of a practice of enterprise blogging which starting to be a new trend in big companies. After 3 days of the latest release of Firefox, research suggested that Firefox’s market share has increased quite significantly since May 2005. On the same day, I posted a picture with a Jesus face taken from Google Map, a service utilizes satellite images to display maps of the planet earth.

Sunday
On Sunday, I wrote a short article introducing a nicely designed keyboard : Optimus Keyboard. It is a programmable keyboard and hopefully we’ll see it n the market in 2006. Finally, the fight between AMD and Intel starts, as lawyers with the two companies will sit down in August to discuss for the first time their latest antitrust case.
