This robotic mule as shown in the picture is developed by Boston Dynamics for military purposes. BigDog is the latest alpha robotic to be added into Boston Dynamics family of robots. Boston Dynamics is also supported by Foster Miller, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Harvard University Concord Field Station. They named this robotic beast BigDog, the most advanced quadruped robot on earth !
BigDog is powered by a gasoline engine that drives a hydraulic actuation system. In other words, it’s very sturdy as it can withstand a kick to the body without falling over. BigDog can walk, run and climb on rough terrain and carry heavy loads. Technically speaking, BigDog is able to trot at 3.3 mph (5.35 km/h), climbed a 35 degree slope and carried a 120 lb (54.4 kg) load.
It’s specification is as follows :-
- Long : 1 meter
- Height : 0.7 meters tall
- Weight : 75 kg
