Boost Ranking In Google Blog Search Using Google Sitemaps - [Part 1]

Friday 23 September 2005 @ 3:37 am

GoogleJust a few days ago, in the post of Google Blog Search Strategy, I mentioned in the comments that by submitting the posts in your blog to Google Sitemaps might help Google to update your latest posts. Hence, it will increase the chances of your readers to reach your blog through Google Blog Search.

Usually, your posts will get indexed by Google when its spider crawls to your blog, but this is not guaranteed when it will come. Instead of waiting for the spider to come, why not submit all your posts to Google Sitemaps and let all of them get indexed as soon as possible? In fact, my blog has got more than 18,000 20,000 pages (Updated!) indexed by Google, I strongly think partly due to my frequent submission to Google Sitemaps.

Some of you, including Andrew, might not have submitted your posts to Google Sitemaps and would like to know how to do it, right? I will try my best to show you how. However, I will break this post into three parts :-

  • Part 1. For anyone using any blog script, such as WordPress, Movable Type, Blogsome, Blogspot, etc.
  • Part 2. For WordPress user.
  • Part 3. For Movable Type user. I am not a MT user, but I’ll see what I can do about it. :)

First of all, you will need a Google Sitemaps account. If you already have a GMail account, go login to Google Sitemaps. If you still do not have a GMail account, drop me a line or two to my GMail account, I will send an invitation to you right away.

Next, you will need to generate a sitemap to submit to Google Sitemaps. In this post, I will only cover how to generate sitemap using online tools.

A Secure Google WiFi

Tuesday 20 September 2005 @ 4:59 pm

GoogleGuess I have missed to make a prediction of such service from the past 2 articles about the possible Google products. Anyway, I have just come across what I guess to be another new service (Yup, another one!) from Google, Google WiFi. We can use this free service with an additional service, Google Secure Access, too.

Before you head over to the page to download the Google Secure Access, for your information, Google Secure Access currently only available at certain locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. By the way, San Francisco City will be going entirely wireless in near future.

What the new service will do is to receive the internet traffic from our PC and encrypt it while it is sending through Google’s servers then the data will be sent back through Google servers to our computer. By doing so, Google Secure Access allows us to establish a more secure connection while using Google WiFi.

Now, even WiFi service also Google took a step into the industry, let’s see what else the giant search engine company will do the next. :)

Google Blog Search Strategy

Monday 19 September 2005 @ 10:27 pm

A number of bloggers was discussing about the latest search service launched by Google, Google Blog Search on Wednesday September 14, 2005. It gives us the ease to search for any entry that the blogger has written. It depends on how fast the entry has been indexed, sometimes even within 1 hour the post was published.

Google Search

While Skype was acquired by eBay and hope to drive up the volume of its auction sales, Google Blog Search may serve as a tool to boost the sale of Google AdSense. This thought came into my mind after reading the news of the new search service launched. Then my thought was echoed after reading an article written about the same thought too.

There are many valid reasons Google took this step to launch such search, the following are what I can think of :-

  • I can say more than 40% of the blogs are using Google AdSense, which is one of the main source of Google’s income.
  • Google keeps track of those who submitted their blogs’ entries to Google Sitemaps.
  • The easier people to reach a blog with AdSense, the more Google will earn from AdSense.

Found an interesting freeware, you guys might be interested to try it out. The software is called OriMado, it allows you to fold the window in Windows OS by moving the mouse in certain directions, or so called using mouse gesture.

For instance, you can just drag a file from one file explorer window to another by folding one of the windows, just like what you see in the picture on the right. I downloaded the small application and tried it on my Windows XP, it really works !! From the picture shown, I was actually moving the ReadMe.txt file come along with OriMado application from om_5 to My eBooks folder in My Documents.

Gmail Notifier For Desktop & Firefox

Tuesday 2 August 2005 @ 11:56 am

Gmail
I believe most of us have Gmail account, right? Anyway, just in case you still do not have any, email me, I’ll send you an invitation right away.

Ok, since most of us have Gmail, don’t you feel it’s quite troublesome to login to Gmail account to check whether you have got any email from time to time? Especially when you are waiting for an important email coming into your Gmail account.

Well, there are actually two great applications to help you on this.

Gmail do have its own official Gmail Notifier, which is a Windows application that alerts you when you have new Gmail messages. You’ll need to install it on your system and run it. Basically, the notification functionality of Google Gmail Notifier is similar to MSN Messenger (For Hotmail) or Yahoo Messenger (For Yahoo Mail), except you can’t use it for chatting. :p

Introduction To AMD Turion64

Saturday 23 July 2005 @ 6:35 pm

AMD Turion64
Normally, when we talk about laptop processor, the first processor comes into your mind would be Intel Pentium-M, which is used in all Intel Centrino laptops. So, to change this mindset, AMD has released their processors to help capturing more market share in laptop market. So, basically AMD Sempron based laptop is designed to fight head to head with the Intel Celeron M based laptop, which means both are targeting the cheap, entry level laptop market. Whereas on the other hand, AMD Turion64 based laptop is challenging Intel Pentium M based laptop and is aiming to capture the same market segment, for low power consumption yet high performance laptops, that Intel Pentium M based laptops have been dominating so far.

While Intel is proud of their Intel Centrino Mobile Technology, AMD too has their Turion64 chip under the official product name of AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology.
