AMD To Have Own Chipset Soon

Sunday 27 November 2005 @ 10:55 pm

AMD
So far, microprocessor manufacturer, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), does not have its own motherboard chipset unlike their bitter rival, Intel, do. However, soon AMD will introduce its own special chipset for entertainment-oriented PCs.

AMD is planning to come up with a new brand for its digital media platforms in 2006 utilizing their own chipset. Currently AMD is still relying on third party chipset manufacturer such as VIA Technology. The coming chipset will be labeled a brand new name too which remains unknown at the moment. Well, this new brand is likely to compete against Intel’s Viiv which also targeting entertainment-oriented PCs.

While Intel’s Viiv based PC is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2006, the development time line for the new brand of AMD is still unclear to the public. Hopefully, sooner or later we will see some AMD brand motherboards available in the market.

Intel Pentium-M vs AMD Turion64

Saturday 3 September 2005 @ 12:56 pm

IntelAMD
I have just come across a very well written article comparing mobile processors, both Intel Pentium-M (Dothan) and AMD Turion64. I know, there are tons of articles comparing the two, but I found this selected review is comparing as scientifically fair as possible. In other words, the review picked laptops with the specifications as close as possible and running benchmarks more than once to produce reliable results, not like some other reviews comparing totally different laptop setups (like this one).

Of course, there are limitations of the review (which doesn’t?), such as running most of the benchmarking off the AC plug. This is because running off AC plug and off the battery would possibly results in difference on performance of the laptop.

Furthermore, you will definitely be surprised of some benchmarking results like file compression, multimedia and battery life. After reading through the review, I can’t agree more with some of the conclusions made.

Fujitsu AMD Turion Laptop S2000 Series

Friday 5 August 2005 @ 4:11 pm

Fujitsu S2000
3 weeks ago, I posted regarding Fujitsu-Siemens is taking orders for their desktop models Esprimo E small form-factor PC and Esprimo P tower models with AMD processors, after just 2 weeks AMD filing suit against Intel. In fact, before this lawsuit been filed, AMD claimed that Fujitsu-Siemens was hiding its AMD computers on its website and removing all references to commercial AMD-powered products in the company’s retail catalog because Intel offered Fujitsu-Siemens a ‘special discount‘ on Celeron processors.

So, as we can see, Fujitsu-Siemens started taking order for desktop PC models and now Fujitsu started selling AMD Turionâ„¢ 64 based laptop on their website within only 1 month. :)

The Fujitsu LifeBook S2000 series features AMD Turionâ„¢ 64 mobile technology, which supports both 32-bit and 64-bit applications. With its 64-bit Turionâ„¢ processors, MT-28, S2000 runs at 1.6GHz with 512KB L2 cache. It has 512MB ( 2 x 256MB ) DDR333 memory too.
