Targus CityLite II Ultra Backpack Review

Tuesday 8 July 2014 @ 2:57 am

A few weeks ago, I received a CityLite II Ultra Backpack from Targus for review. CityLite II Ultra Backpack is one of the latest models in Targus CityLite II series that they just launched in April 2014. I’ve been using it daily and truly love it as my primary laptop bag now.

The latest Targus CityLite II series consists of the following 4 new models (as shown in above picture) :-

  • 15.6″ CityLite II Ultra Backpack (rightmost) RM238
  • 15.6″ CityLite II Max Backpack (leftmost) RM238
  • 15.6″ CityLite II SL Backpack (2nd leftmost) RM288
  • 17″ CityLite II Ultimate Backpack (2nd rightmost) RM319

Prior to using this CityLite II Ultra Backpack, I’ve always thought the free laptop bag that comes with any purchase of a new laptop is good enough for everyday use. I had to change this misconception of mine after using a CityLite II Ultra Backpack because I was impressed with the extra protection it offers and some features that totally worth the money.

Security

Targus CityLite II Ultra Backpack, like all the backpacks in CityLite II collection, is designed for travel and everyday use. It is great for business commute, travel, and as a carry-on for airplanes too. The safety lock anti-theft puller system prevents easy access into the backpacks. It’s very effective to avoid unwanted opening of the bag and makes it harder for pickpockets to unzip and steal anything from inside the backpack. This feature provides better safety against pickpockets and thieves especially when commuting.

Another security feature that I like is the clever design of its zippered back pocket. Important documents such as passport, cash and wallet can fit into this back pocket and it’s hidden from the eyes of pickpockets. These added security features enable valuables to be kept safe, giving a peace of mind for commuters and frequent travelers.

Design

In term of design, the backpack has padded back panel and shoulder straps that are ergonomically designed to mould according to body shape. The backpack is incredibly light as it only weights 0.80kg (1.76lbs).

Laptops up to 15.6″ are securely stored in a dedicated snug fitted foam cradle laptop compartment in the main compartment. The main compartment of CityLite II Ultra has a separate mesh pocket storage for tablets or documents too. In the secondary compartment, the advanced accessory pockets keep all the accessories and gadgets such as mouse, external hard disk, business card, keys and pens organized.

On top of providing maximum security and safety, CityLite II Ultra Backpack has a vertical quick-access front pocket which makes it convenient and easy to reach for frequently used items, such as powerbank or tissue paper. The mesh pocket on both sides of the backpack can hold a water bottle, an umbrella, or anything you want to easily have access to as well.

The built-in detachable rain cover and water-resistant bottom are ideal for rainy weathers in Malaysia. This feature alone is already priceless to me as I can’t afford to let any of my gadgets, especially storage devices, to get wet considering the valuable data in it. The exterior material of CityLite II Ultra Backpack, constructed of durable 840D polyester with PU backing, is durable and can sustain the most demanding journeys.

Price

There is still some room left after I put in all the things in the above picture into the backpack including a 13.3″ laptop, iPad 2, laptop charger, laptop mouse, passport, wallet, car key, mooncake metal box, document file, book, Nexus 4, 2 powerbanks (1 with pouch, another without), 2 portable hard disks, 2 water tumblers and a can drink.
