Yahoo late Tuesday will introduce a test version of its instant-messaging software that utilizes VoIP.
Yahoo Messenger, has an estimated 65 million users worldwide, will offer a free update during the software’s test phase. In addition to letting people send standard instant text messages, the new version is designed to make it easy to call friends free via computer, send a short text message to a mobile device, share photos and post content to a personal Web log.
Quoted:
“E-mail was the killer application from the mid to late ’90s, then instant chat came second, now VoIP is opening up the third chapter,” Frazier Miller, director of Yahoo Messenger, said in an interview.
This is still a good news, though we can already use Skype for VoIP at the moment. Anyway, as long as the competition is still going on, there will be more features to be integrated in, hopefully. :)

New worm emerged early this week, variously named “Oscarbot-B” and “Doyorg” by antivirus companies, are targeting users of AOL’s instant messaging software, AIM. Something similar to the recent MSN worm, I think.
Quoted:
The Windows-based malware emerged early this week, and has made itself a nuisance for its ability to hijack the list of contacts or “buddies” in an infected user’s IM account. After opening a window to any one of these contacts with the message “Hey check this out“, it invites users to follow an embedded link. Anyone who clicks on this will risk becoming its next victim.
The worm creates a backdoor into Internet Relay Chat (IRC) to download and run files on machines where infection is successful, commanded by the instruction of the attacker, hence, giving remote access to that infected PC.
So, all AIM users, please be aware of all the links your buddies sent you, re-confirm with them before clicking it is always an advisable idea.

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies has announced availability of the Travelstar 7K100, the top-of-the line 100GB capacity in its 7200RPM series of 2.5-inch notebook drives will be shipped by the end of the month.
Of course the price of a laptop with this huge capacity in won’t be cheap, Hitachi says that Dell plans to use it in its top-of-the-line Inspiron XPS Gen 2 gaming system, which starts at USD$2350.
One thing good about this drive is the low power consumption, as Hitachi says that it made enhancements such that the 7200RPM notebook drive has roughly the same power requirements as a comparable 5400RPM notebook drive.
