Thursday 22 September 2005 @ 1:25 am

FirefoxWhile we are still talking about the free Opera web browser, Mozilla has just announced its latest FireFox release, FireFox 1.0.7.

This latest release includes a patch of a critical security flaw which allows attackers to take advantage on the vulnerabilities to cause a denial of service or launch malicious code. This patch is in fact to fix a potential buffer overflow vulnerability. Besides, there are of course some other stability and security fixes in this version.

So, if you are using an older version of FireFox, it’s recommended to install this latest version.

How to check what version of FireFox are you using ? Open your FireFox, click the Help on top of your toolbar, after that select About Mozilla FireFox. You will see the version number then.

Pizza Fork & Cutter

Wednesday 21 September 2005 @ 4:41 pm

This is not a computer technology related post, I just felt like want to share an interesting product. Personally, I love innovative products, well of course it has to be practical as well.

Very often I feel fed up cutting pizza using a knife. Now it seems slicing pizza is not that hard anymore, thanks to Miles Kimball for introducing Pizza Fork and Cutter.

A Secure Google WiFi

Tuesday 20 September 2005 @ 4:59 pm

GoogleGuess I have missed to make a prediction of such service from the past 2 articles about the possible Google products. Anyway, I have just come across what I guess to be another new service (Yup, another one!) from Google, Google WiFi. We can use this free service with an additional service, Google Secure Access, too.

Before you head over to the page to download the Google Secure Access, for your information, Google Secure Access currently only available at certain locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. By the way, San Francisco City will be going entirely wireless in near future.

What the new service will do is to receive the internet traffic from our PC and encrypt it while it is sending through Google’s servers then the data will be sent back through Google servers to our computer. By doing so, Google Secure Access allows us to establish a more secure connection while using Google WiFi.

Now, even WiFi service also Google took a step into the industry, let’s see what else the giant search engine company will do the next. :)

Google Blog Search Strategy

Monday 19 September 2005 @ 10:27 pm

A number of bloggers was discussing about the latest search service launched by Google, Google Blog Search on Wednesday September 14, 2005. It gives us the ease to search for any entry that the blogger has written. It depends on how fast the entry has been indexed, sometimes even within 1 hour the post was published.

Google Search

While Skype was acquired by eBay and hope to drive up the volume of its auction sales, Google Blog Search may serve as a tool to boost the sale of Google AdSense. This thought came into my mind after reading the news of the new search service launched. Then my thought was echoed after reading an article written about the same thought too.

There are many valid reasons Google took this step to launch such search, the following are what I can think of :-

  • I can say more than 40% of the blogs are using Google AdSense, which is one of the main source of Google’s income.
  • Google keeps track of those who submitted their blogs’ entries to Google Sitemaps.
  • The easier people to reach a blog with AdSense, the more Google will earn from AdSense.
