I wrote a post about the 5 Unique Things You Can Do Using (Only) Nokia N900 in May. Today I’m gonna show you another 5 to make it a total of 10 unique things you can do with Nokia N900.
The number continues from my previous post, hence starting from #6 :-
6. Run 3 widely used web browsers (Firefox, Opera & Chrome)
I have no idea how I left this out in my previous post. I should have included this in my first post.
Anyway, Nokia N900 is able to run all 3 popular browsers :-
- Mozilla Firefox Mobile
- Opera Mobile (Not Opera Mini, see the difference)
- Google Chrome

Firefox Mobile is exclusively available for Maemo devices only at the moment, making Nokia N900 one of the first few devices to have the honour to run it. Besides, Opera Mobile runs smoothly on N900 as well, all thanks to the huge virtual memory the device has. Last but not least, you are able to run Google Chrome in n900 too, even though Google Chrome is not officially available for Maemo phone yet. Anyway, it runs. :)

On top of the above 3 browsers, the default web browser of Nokia N900 is capable to load Flash content such as Facebook and Youtube videos right inside the web browser itself.
7. Shoot High Dynamic Range (HDR) Image
You should be familiar with the term High Dynamic Range (HDR) if you are into photography. Anyway, Wikipedia has a very good explanation of HDR imaging in case you want to read more about it. Basically, HDR a set of techniques to combine a series of bracketed exposures (overexposed & underexposured) images into a single image which encompasses the tonal detail of the entire series.

Yes, Nokia N900 is able to shoot HDR images using an open source application called FCam, a collaborative project between Stanford University and the Nokia Research Center in Palo Alto. Details is available here.
Check out the HDR images below, all shot by Nokia N900 :-

8. Use as a remote control
AFAIK, you are able to transform Nokia N900 into not one, not two but three types of remote control :-
- 1. TV Remote Control
- 2. Camera Remote Control
- 3. PS3 Remote Control
Take a look at the following videos to see how N900 users are using the device as the above mentioned remote controls.

9. Alter the way LED flashes
Well, you might not find this very useful but it’s no doubt a cool way to customize how the LED of your N900 flashes. :)
10. Google GTalk Video Call
Google GTalk Video Call between PC and Nokia N900 is working! This feature is not even available on Android phones.
Below are the steps to establish a video call in GTalk :-
- 1. Video call must be initiated from GTalk on a PC (caller) to Nokia N900 (receiver).
- 2. Receiver on N900 needs to activate the camera.
- 3. Done! Video call is established.

Step 1 – Initiate video call from GTalk on a PC (caller) to Nokia N900 (receiver)
Step 2 – Receiver on N900 needs to activate the camera.
The reason why the image quality of the video call is poor because I have a matte screen protector on my Nokia N900 and the screen protector is covering the front camera lens.
There you have the 10 unique things you can do using your Nokia N900 smartphone. I’ll try my best to post more articles in this series in the future. Hope you like it.
