It’s undeniable there are more and more laptops in the market using AMD chips these days as compared to last few years. I believe there will be even more coming after the antitrust lawsuit early this month.
Quoted:
AMD-based notebooks are expected to become more commonplace through the rest of the year, as more vendors enter this segment of the market. It cites sources who claim AMD is looking to increase its share of the Taiwanese notebook market this year from 5% to more than 9%.
First we have seen HP launched 2 AMD based laptops last month. This week there is one more AMD based laptop entered the market. BenQ has launched its first AMD-based notebook, which currently only selling n Taiwan according to the source.
The Joybook R22E-T17 comes with a Mobile Sempron 2600+ processor bundled with 256MB of DDR SDRAM, a 40GB hard drive, a 15in display, DVD-ROM drive and 802.11g Wi-Fi. According to a DigiTimes report, the unit is available for TWD19,999 (RM2,380 !! :-O ).
However, I manage to get the European version of Joybook R22E-T17, which is slightly more powerful than the Taiwan verison. It comes with Mobile Sempron 3000+ and above, 512MB DDR333 and 40-80GB harddisk.

go amd….Intel need some competition.
maybe I should consider an AMD notebook too :)
8dee: Well, competition is always good for improvement. :)
LcF: With less than only RM2,380, the price is really quite attractive. Sempron Mobile is more or less like Celeron-M, both targeting low cost laptop market. If you are interested in higher performance AMD based laptop, go for Turion.
I’ll be writing another article about Turion laptops in a while, hopefully I can publish it by tomorrow.
