AMD To Have Own Chipset Soon

Sunday 27 November 2005 @ 10:55 pm

AMD
So far, microprocessor manufacturer, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), does not have its own motherboard chipset unlike their bitter rival, Intel, do. However, soon AMD will introduce its own special chipset for entertainment-oriented PCs.

AMD is planning to come up with a new brand for its digital media platforms in 2006 utilizing their own chipset. Currently AMD is still relying on third party chipset manufacturer such as VIA Technology. The coming chipset will be labeled a brand new name too which remains unknown at the moment. Well, this new brand is likely to compete against Intel’s Viiv which also targeting entertainment-oriented PCs.

While Intel’s Viiv based PC is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2006, the development time line for the new brand of AMD is still unclear to the public. Hopefully, sooner or later we will see some AMD brand motherboards available in the market.

FemDefence – A Protection Against Rape

Sunday 6 November 2005 @ 9:20 pm

Come across Liz‘s post regarding a young kid was trying to molest her few days ago and I really think girls should take extra care of yourselves regardless daytime or late at night. Be extra cautious walking alone or even in a group, don’t ever say you walk in a pair and you are safe, think what if they are 5 in a group !

I am not here to give you lesson, so I better show you something interesting yet can protect the girls. Coincidentally, I come across an interesting website on the same day I read Liz’s blog entry. The website is about a small device called FemDefence that it’s believed to be able to protect girls against rape !

FemDefence

Quoted:
The project FemDefence is an attempt to contribute to the debate on men’s sexual violence against women in society, using the esthetics of design, and the semiotics of marketing.

Intel’s 65nm Processors Can Go Beyond 4GHz

Wednesday 2 November 2005 @ 1:49 pm

IntelThe highest speed of Intel’s Pentium D processors currently in the market still remain below 4GHz. In very near future, we will see dual-core Intel Pentium D processors using 65nm process technology available as Intel is now ready to ship them.

Well, some hardware reviewers have already received some of the latest chips to measure their power consumption and investigate its overclock-ability, AnandTech is one of them. According to them :-

Quoted:
“The new cores do definitely overclock much better than their predecessors, and they will allow any serious overclocker to reach speeds greater than 4.0GHz effortlessly. Most exciting to us was the 4.25GHz overclock that we saw on Presler, as a 4.25GHz Pentium D will truly be a formidable opponent to AMD’s Athlon 64 X2. Cedar Mill offered reasonable overclocking headroom as well, but we would have liked to see a 5.0GHz overclock on standard air cooling, given that reaching 4.0GHz is possible today on Prescott.”

However, despite the impressive reduction in power consumption, Pentium D still does not give Intel the advantage to outperform AMD.

Samsung 3GB Mobile Phone

Tuesday 18 October 2005 @ 11:16 pm

Apple iPod has two models with different capacity available for sale now. The 2GB model can store up to 500 mp3 songs, whereas the 4GB one can store up to 1000. For me, 2GB capacity is just nice.

Samsung SPH-V7900

Well, while I am thinking 2GB might be too much to store all my mp3 in a portable device, Samsung announced the launch of 3GB mobile phone, with model name SPH-V7900. SPH-V7900 is the world’s second mobile phone embedded with a hard disk following the introduction of Samsung SPH-V5400, 1.5GB mobile phone in September 2005.

As you can easily calculated, SPH-V7900 can hold up to 700 mp3 songs at 4MB each or 2-3 full length movies at 1.1-1.5GB each. Besides, you will be able to store up to 2,400 contact details too. While double up the capacity from the previous model, Samsung SPH-V7900 does not sacrifice the talk time, which allows you to talk up to 4.5 hours or standby for 200 hours. Since the phone is using hard disk, i am expecting the battery will be draining faster than usual mobile phone.
