After almost 3 months since the first launch of AMD Athlon64 X2 processors, AMD has added a new member to their 64bit Dual Core desktop processor family – Athlon 64 X2 3800+.
So far, the price of Athlon 64 X2 processors with processing speeds 2.2GHz – 2.4GHz are sky high, ranged from USD$537 (RM2,040) – USD$1,001 (RM3,804) each. With the latest Athlon 64 X2 3800+ coming into the market, this means we will have a cheaper priced 64bit Dual Core desktop processor for selection. This new processor is currently priced just under USD$370 (RM1,406). What a good news !! :)
The Athlon 64 X2 3800+ is clocked at 2.0GHz and will feature 512KB of L2 cache on each core, which means a total of 1MB L2 cache. It is based on the same core that is used for the 4200+ (2.2GHz) and 4600+ (2.4GHz).

I had a computer with an Athlon before. I swear never to touch anything that is not Intel. *run fast fast*
Why run fast fast leh?
In fact, Athlon X2 is totally different from the old Athlon (which has a bad name because of its heat problem).
From the Stress Test performed by TomsHardware, you can see Athlon X2 is actually generating less heat (with a difference of around 10 Celcius) than Pentium-D (Intel latest desktop processor).
