The speculation of eBay is going to acquire Skype has been spreading for the last few days. I think this might be a real fact in coming days.
The giant online auction site, eBay, is reportedly approached VoIP communication provider, Skype about a possible acquisition. The deal would be USD$2 billion – USD$3 billion.
We might think VoIP communication is outside the scope of eBay’s core business and why eBay is interested in Skype? I think Skype will be a great place for eBay to advertise its auction products, while providing a platform for the bidder and owner to communicate. If this acquisition is for real, I’m sure some added features like checking auction details through Skype will be integrated. This will certainly turn Skype to another communication tool for online buyers.
However, there is still no concrete announcement from eBay, yet.
Quoted:
“There are different rumours every day,” Zennstrom said. “We don’t comment on rumors. When we make deals, we announce them.”, Skype co-founder and chief executive Niklas Zennstrom declined to comment.
Anyway, let’s see how it goes in coming weeks. :)
