Maxis10 : Samsung Galaxy S Unboxing

Monday 5 July 2010 @ 11:24 am

Last week, I received a good news from Maxis (A Telco in Malaysia) that I’ve been selected as one of the ten Maxis10 Reviewers for Samsung Galaxy S. Maxis is currently having a promotion where you just need to pay RM1,699 with a 1 year contract (previously I wrote 2 years which is not correct), instead of paying the full price of RM2,599.

Finally, I’ve got the sexy phone from them. So, I’ll do a series of reviews from today onwards, hopefully we’ll see some in-depth ones. For now, you may take a look of the brief specification of Samsung Galaxy S to see how sexy it is.

After the jump is my first Samsung Galaxy S video showing you the unboxing of the phone :-

Compare Camera : Nokia N8 vs iPhone 4

Monday 14 June 2010 @ 10:38 pm

We currently have 2 most awaited smartphones to be launched in this mid of 2010. The first one is Apple iPhone 4, which will start its pre-order tomorrow and will be available in store 10 days later, on my birthday 24th June, 2010. 2 months later, Nokia N8 will be released around 24th August, 2010, and you may pre-order the device right now at Amazon Germany.

Both smartphones run on brand new Operating Systems (iPhone iOS4 for iPhone & Symbian^3 for N8) and come with a lot of new features. Well, the camera is one of the things I’m always interested in a smartphone, so I think making a comparison of the pictures captured using iPhone 4 and Nokia N8 would be fun.

The camera technical specification of both smartphones are as follows :-

Nokia N8

  • 12 megapixel Carl Zeiss lens
  • Xenon flash
  • 16:9 aspect ratio (wide screen)
  • Focal length: 5.9mm (equivalent to 28mm wide angle lens)
  • F number/Aperture: F2.8
  • Zoom : Digital 2x

iPhone 4

  • 5 megapixel CMOS sensor
  • LED flash
  • 4:3 aspect ratio
  • Focal length: 3.85mm (equivalent to lens of 29.4mm)
  • F number/Aperture: F2.8
  • Autofocus
  • Zoom : Digital 5x

After comparing the technical specifications of both smartphone’s cameras, let’s see some images taken by both devices :-

5 Unique Things You Can Do Using (Only) Nokia N900

Monday 31 May 2010 @ 9:51 pm

It’s been 2 months since I started using Nokia N900. I’ve been telling my friends who are interested in this device that N900 is actually like a hidden treasure, the more you explore the more you’ll discover its capabilities.

Below are some unique functions that I found in Nokia N900 :-

1. Heavy Multitasking

It’s not normal multitasking like open up 5-10 applications at once. Nokia N900 is able to run up to (if not more) 32 applications, all at the same time. This is the video that I’ve seen the most number of applications open on N900 :-

The Main Reason You Should Buy Nokia N900!

Saturday 22 May 2010 @ 2:22 pm

It’s simply because you can play PacMan at www.google.com on your Nokia N900. :D

I got the power! Run for your life!

Nokia N900’s web browser fully supports Javascripts, that’s why.

Universal Mobile Phones Compatible With Different Operating Systems

Thursday 13 May 2010 @ 1:13 am

Countless smartphones have been released by major phone manufacturers in the past few years, such as Nokia, Apple, HTC, Motorola, Samsung, Palm, etc. Each of these phones runs on its own operating system (OS) and we still do not see a universal mobile phone that is compatible with different operating systems in the market.

Phone hackers had proven that it’s indeed possible to run different operating systems on the same phone. Some recent examples are :-

Nokia N900 (default OS is Maemo 5) running on Android

iPhone 3G (default OS is iPhone 3.0) running on Android

Of course, before running a different OS on a phone there are many considerations such as hardware driver compatibility, etc. However, I believe the hardware-OS compatibility issue can be solved between the OS developer and phone manufacturer. Hopefully, we’ll soon see the first universal mobile phone that we can install different OS on it, just like how we are doing on our PC.
