Both MSN and Yahoo Messenger have its archive features so that we are able to save all chatting sessions for future reference or something. Initially Google’s GTalk didn’t have such archiving feature when it first launched, but the feature was just added into the instant messenger recently.
Surprisingly, not even Official Google Blog or GTalk Blog mentioned about this newly added feature. This only official article mentioned about new archiving feature can be found in GMail FAQ page.
To use this archiving feature, you will need to enable it from GMail settings as shown in the figure above. If you feel keeping track of all your chat sessions in Google server, you can always turn the feature off at any later time.
Well, if you would like to keep track of all chat sessions but leave some not recorded, you can use the “Go off the record” in GTalk. This option is available in each chat window, located in the Option button. By enabling this option, the chat log of you and the person you are chatting with will not be recorded at anytime until one of you turns it off. After turning it on, the following message will appear in the chat window :-
Quoted:
You are now off the record (from now on, chats with xxxx will not be saved in xxxx’s Gmail account or yours)
I think the Quick Contacts feature is not yet integrated, but it definitely looks cool because we can now chat via the GMail interface without logging into GTalk. Can’t wait to see this feature to go live in GMail.
Well, if you would like to change your GTalk theme to other colours, feel free to check out the GTalk theme collections I have created. There are themes with Blue, Pink, Black, Red, Yellow and Purple colours.
