Another Critical IE Bug

Sunday 18 September 2005 @ 4:36 pm

There were a few critical security flaws found on both Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) web browsers in past few months. Just 2 days ago, another critical flaw was found in IE.

This critical security flaw can be exploited remotely from other PC. Hackers can possibly launch an attack to Windows XP SP2 via the flaw.

Quoted:
Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser sports a flaw that hackers could use to launch a remote attack on Windows XP SP2, eEye Digital Security said Thursday.

So far, Microsoft has been reluctant to patch its web browser and left at least five other critical unpatched to date, including some reported 15, 46, 129, 134, and 171 days ago. This time, Microsoft still have not patched the latest critical security flaw even though confirmed about the receipt of the report.

Anyway, instead of using a slow-to-get-patched web browser, why not switch to a more secure and better browser, Firefox? :)

Yahoo Instant Search

Saturday 17 September 2005 @ 12:52 pm

Few days ago, Yahoo quietly launch its Instant Search Beta. Its functionality is similar to Yahoo Search, with an extra feature of analyzing the keywords when you are typing in the search box in real-time.

Yahoo Instant Search

Most if the time when we search, the search results only appear after we typed in the search keyword(s) and hit the Search button. The real-time analyzing feature in Yahoo Instant Search Beta give us a fast and direct result while we are typing the keyword(s), it instantly provides us with the #1 result for that search. Well, you will know instantly if you have misspelled any of the keyword(s) too. :)

Baidu Got Sued !!

Saturday 17 September 2005 @ 4:13 am

Baidu
Chinese Search Engine Baidu.com has gone public in Nasdaq stock market last month and even caused a big impact of the first day listing. But things didn’t go their way recently as they have been sued by four largest record companies including Universal Music Group, EMI Group Plc, Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group Corp. The charge is of course about copyright infringement of mp3 songs.

If you have ever used Baidu to search for any mp3 songs before, you might have the same thought as mine, that songs listed in Baidu’s search result might have already infringed the copyright of the song. I had this doubt since the first day using the service, and now Baidu seems to get themselve into trouble.

Somehow, Baidu claims that they are just providing the search results that contain link to the source of illegal mp3 download sites. In fact, they do not offer any illegal mp3 download directly. I believe should Baidu to win this lawsuit, they might a better reason to defend themselve.

GoDaddy $1.99 Domain Name

Friday 16 September 2005 @ 10:45 pm

GoDaddy $1.99 Domain
After just a 2 weeks yahoo insanely offered domain names at $1.99. GoDaddy now offers USD$1.99 for a domain name too. This special offer expires on September 30, 2005.

You may get a new domain name, transfer or renew a currently using domain at only USD$1.99. However, this offer from GoDaddy unlike Yahoo’s, it requires you to at least purchase a non-domain service from GoDaddy, then only you are entitled for the special discounted price. In other words, you may enjoy getting a domain at USD$1.99 with a purchase of SSL certificate or a web hosting service from GoDaddy.

Enjoy the low price, everyone. :)

AdSense On Google Talk ?

Friday 16 September 2005 @ 4:26 am

Google Talk with AdSense
Just some thing to ponder after we have seen eBay acquired Skype just 3 days ago. It’s almost certain Skype will start integrating some services related to eBay business in near future. So, that actually rang me a bell that Google might do the same to its Instant Messenger application, Google Talk, as well.

In fact, I think Google is definitely considering to integrate one of its advertising services, Google AdSense, into Google talk.

The purpose of AdSense in Google Talk can be as an advertisement banner or text link. It might appears whenever we write some keywords. Take for instance, when we type CRM (stands for Customer Relationship Management) software, there will be a text advertisement shows up some where in the conversation windows.

Personally, I think this is quite highly possible as we have already seen MSN Messenger having an advertisement banner at the bottom of the application. However, if this feature is enabled by default, Google Talk should allow the user to turn it off because some times it’s very annoying seeing too many advertisements while chatting. :p
