Singapore & Thailand Selling, Still No iPhone For Malaysian

Friday 14 November 2008 @ 10:37 am

Well, of course I’m not talking about those smuggled iPhone, ok!

Officially, Singapore started selling iPhone since 22th August, now Thailand is going sell original 3G iPhone in coming months!

True Move, Thailand’s third-largest mobile phone firm, announced yesterday that they had signed a deal with Apple Inc. to sell the 3G iPhone in Thailand.

I think we’ll only get to see 3G iPhone here after iPhone 2.0 is out!

AMD Launched First 45-nanometer Opteron Server Processor

Thursday 13 November 2008 @ 9:37 pm

AMD Opteron
Just 1 day after Intel announced reducing their fourth-quarter revenue estimate by about $1 billion, AMD today launched its first 45-nanometer Opteron server processor, code named Shanghai.

This long-awaited 45nm Quad-Core AMD Opteron came almost a year late since Intel launched their server processor using 45nm semiconductor fabrication process. Anyway, at least now AMD is on par with Intel.

Performance enhancement of the new processors compared to previous generations of AMD Opteron processors are as the following :-

  • 35% increase in power efficiency (consume 75 watts of power)
  • 30% greater performance
  • 3x L3 cache (now 6MB!)
  • Higher clock speed. (2.3 GHz – 2.7 GHz)

As expected, the price of Shanghai also won’t come cheap, they will be selling in price range US$377 – US$989 for the 2000 series and US$1,165 – US$2,149 for the faster 8000 series.

On an unrelated note, the current on-going economy crisis has so far hit the 2 computer chip manufacturer really hard, driving Intel’s stock price to 12-year low while AMD’s is heading 18-year low! Is it time to grab some bargain? Hehe…

Apple iPhone Coming To Singapore On 22 August!

Thursday 14 August 2008 @ 2:10 pm

After such a long wait, Apple third-generation iPhone 3G will be officially sold in Singapore on 22 August, 2008! Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) announced this much awaited news on Tuesday.

iPhone In Singapore

Both the 8GB and 16GB versions of iPhone will be available. Similar to how iPhone was first introduced in Hong Kong, SingTel will accept online reservation until Aug 17. iPhone will then hot the shelve of all SingTel stores throughout Singapore on 22 August. No price tag is set for the phone yet though.

Anyway, cheers Singaporean!

Well, I know some shops in Malaysia have already been selling unlocked iPhone since early this year but the question now is when are we going to see iPhone officially launched here in Malaysia?

32GB USB Flash Drive On Sale!

Wednesday 7 May 2008 @ 6:01 pm

This morning, I was browsing through some sales of computer peripherals at Amazon and was a little shock to see such huge capacity USB flash drive is on sale!

corsair 32gb flash drive

Corsair Flash Voyager is the latest product manufactured by Corsair and it’s the largest capacity USB 2.0 flash drive to date with a massive 32GB of storage. While Moore’s law is suggesting memory capacity would double its size approximately every 2 years, I think this 32GB flash drive is a bit beyond the projection, don’t you think so?

Anyway, obviously this USB flash drive is not a prototype but an end product selling on the shelves in many online computer stores right now, below are some sales I found :-

Corsair is well known of its high quality and performance computer main memory (RAM), therefore they are confident with Corsair Flash Voyager by offering a 10 years limited warranty. Even though the durable rubber casing doesn’t make it one stylish flash drive, I suppose the capacity, reliability and its warranty are enough win our hearts.

Anyway, with such a huge capacity, you can practically store the entire Windows Vista operating system, all application programs, and a couples of DVD into it! Moving huge files from one PC to another PC outside a network and harddisk backup would never been easier using it too.

Apple iPod Nano has evolved to the 3rd generation, now with larger and brighter display. The design of its casing somehow doesn’t change much and still consists of an anodized aluminum top and polished stainless steel back. You might already been getting bored of the original casing and want something different?

Well, the world’s first platinum Apple iPod Nano is soon to be launched by the UK’s Goldstriker. Unlike the conventional casing, the platinum plated iPod Nano uses the most precious metal and it sure look more glamorous and style.

Nokia Focus On Mobile Map Navigation

Friday 5 October 2007 @ 2:58 am

Nokia is going full force into expanding their mobile mapping service by offering to buy US-based Navteq for a massive US$8.1billion. Navteq is a company which develops digital maps for the car industry, satellite navigation devices, internet-based mapping applications and solutions for the government and business markets.

Early this year, Nokia rolled out their mobile mapping service called Smart2go. I even have a post about the review of Smart2Go, which was done by a reader of mine, Hafiz Ismail.

Nokia Mobile Mapping Service

“The navigation area is a fast-growing business, and with location-based services expanding rapidly into mobile communications devices, the industry is poised for even further growth,” Nokia said in a statement.
