Nokia’s Product Durability Test

Saturday 10 October 2009 @ 1:46 am

It’s the 10th year since I first started using a mobile phone back in 1999. My mobile phone history is as follows :-

  • Nokia 2110 (1998) – Huge, heavy & with retractable antenna (you won’t get to see this anymore. LoL).
  • Nokia 8110 (1999) – This is the one that you see in the movie Matrix.
  • Nokia 5110 (2000) – Very durable & it’s still working.
  • Nokia 3210 (2001) – I still think this is one of the nicest designed Nokia legacy phone. Mine got stolen.
  • Kyocera TG200 (2002) – This is the lightest phone I’ve ever used, only 75g!
  • Nokia 6610 (2004) – Bought it for my Bachelor degree thesis because it’s one of first few S40 phones with J2ME enabled and I needed one.
  • Nokia N73 Music Edition (2007) – My first N-series Nokia phone.
  • Nokia N97 (2009) – My latest Nokia phone. Love every bit of it!

Nokia has always been my first choice when choosing a mobile phone and one of the main reasons I like about their phones is none other than it’s durability. All Nokia phones I own as listed never died on me and I only changed them for a better phone.

I believe the durability of Nokia phone is quite well known all thanks to their extensive product testing of their products. Do check out the following video I just came across and I feel like sharing with you all :-

Hope you enjoy it. :-)

Google Chrome Operating System Is Coming Our Way, Finally!

Thursday 9 July 2009 @ 10:49 am

Google ChromeDid you see it coming? I would say this is the most anticipated product that I have been waiting for in these few years. This piece of exciting news just arrived after 10 months since Google Chrome Web Browser was released last year.

Most of the Operating System (OS) we are using today were designed and development prior to the Internet era. Google Development Team realizes this and is aiming to produce an OS for people who are relying on the web (Btw, who doesn’t?). Besides, they are also smart enough to sense that netbook is the new trend right now. Therefore, Google Chrome Operating System is designed for the web and will be initially used on netbook.

Below are some highlights of Google Chrome Operating System :-

  • Open source – Like many of the Unix-based OS, it offers accessibility to its source code
  • Lightweight – Less complicated, fast and easy to use
  • Runs on x86 Computer Architecture – Meaning it runs on the same PC you are running Windows, Mac, Linux, etc, as well
  • Secure – The security architecture of the OS was completely redesigned so that it’s virus, malware and security update free

The OS is scheduled to be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. I just can’t wait to see it!

More FAQ about the OS.

I love traveling, do you?

Thursday 2 July 2009 @ 1:22 am

I personally enjoy traveling very much and I always being grateful that my goal of traveling to oversea every year still can be fulfilled since venturing into the working world about 3 years ago.

I’ve been wanting to open a travel blog to record all the traveling experience I’ve had but I just couldn’t find the extra time to maintain it. Well, there is this travel related website (Open Travel) I recently stumbled upon that reminds me sharing travel experience should be very easy and simple.

You can find many helpful tips about traveling in the website. I’m sure the website will come in handy too when you need to find places and attractions that worth paying a visit in your upcoming holidays. Doing simple research of a place is effortless using the website as you can directly find out the exact location of the place in the integrated map and there are pictures posted by the visitors as well.

Speaking about sharing traveling experience, you may even create a Free Travel Blog offered by Open Travel. Readers are able to drop comment in the post where you share your trips and who knows you may even meet your next travel partner there.

Well, what’s traveling if without taking photos, right? So being very thoughtful, the website has a Free Photo Sharing feature too. If you are a frequent traveler and wish to share your traveling experience and beautiful vacation pictures on the Internet, I think you’ve reached the right place.

WordPress 2.8 (Baker) Released!

Thursday 11 June 2009 @ 11:50 pm

WordPressI just upgraded this blog to the latest WordPress (WP) 2.8, which was just released a couple hours ago. This latest version is named after the late Chet Baker, a famous trumpeter and vocalist in the 1950s.

There are not many changes in the layout and design in WP2.8 as compared to its predecessor WP2.7.1. However, WP 2.8 fixed over 790 bugs and improved themes, widgets, taxonomies, and its overall speed. This is the main reason I upgraded the blog immediately after it was released.

Below are the major improvements worth mentioning :-

  • Browse the entire theme directory and install theme with one click
  • CodePress editor – for people who likes to tweaks themes or plugins as it provides syntax highlighting
  • Widgets interface redesigned – edit widget on the fly, drag & drop widget, duplicate widgets, etc.
  • New Screen Options on every page in Dashboard – better customization by allowing you flexibility to arrange items showing on each page

Visit the link for the all the new features on WordPress 2.8. I’m so impressed with all the hard work the development team has put into this latest version.

For those who are using the older version, it’s time to upgrade your blog. Cheers! :D

Nokia N97 Sneak Preview – Part 3 (Applications)!

Monday 1 June 2009 @ 9:39 pm

This is the 3rd part of Nokia N97 Sneak Preview series, it’s about the main applications in the phone such as the A-GPS (with Nokia Maps), Web Browser, 5 Megapixel Carl Zeiss Camera and the Music Player.

5 Megapixel Carl Zeiss auto-focus Camera

The first thing I tried when I got the phone in my hands was the camera.

The auto-focus is amazing as it smartly detects your shooting object automatically and it’s fast! The white balance is good too. No obvious bluish/greenish/reddish effect which some camera phones may have. I don’t expect the flash of a camera phone to be as powerful as a Xenon, so N97’s doesn’t disappoint me as it does its job just fine.

As for Video Recording, one noticeable thing I need to mention is that the voice captured is quite clear even if the voice is coming from about a meter away.
